On the 30th of April Andy arrived in Australia. I met him as he came through the arrival doors and cried like a baby. I made such a scene it was emabarassing. I had spent the previous hour waiting and waiting and staring at the door not sure how I would react... but tears were totally unexpected!
I was really excited to have Andy out here with me and he was pretty excited when he arrived. By the time afternoon came jetlag set in and I was dragging him round the shops. He was like a zombie!
We spent the next few days just the 2 of us in Brisbane. It was really nice. We did some shopping, saw some sights and caught up. It was sunny as well so was nice for Andy arriving. On our final night in Brisbane Andy had booked a surprise for me. I had no idea what it was until he brought me to the entrance of the Hilton! Yes... the Hilton! I was so surprised. At first I was worried they would take one look at me, see I'm a scruffy backpacker and send me out again, but they didn't. In fact they were so nice to us and really helpful. Inside the hotel it was absolutely huge and so nice. We took the glass lifts up to our room to go check out our room. It was really big and luxurious and we had a huge window that looked out over Brisbane. I felt so lucky. It was a great way to spend our last night in Brisbane.
The next day we took a train to Noosa where we met up again with Lauren. She was staying with her family. They had bought a new Wii that day so we all had fun trying it out that night. The following day we got up early and Mike, Lauren's uncle, took us to the river. We got to sit on a rubber tube while the jetski dragged each of us around on it. It was great fun. At first we had it quite easy but by our final shots we were flying around at high speeds and all of us came flying off at one point or another!
The next day we set off in our van and drove north to Rainbow Beach. From here we had booked to do our Fraser Island trip. That afternoon we had a brief meeting to discuss the trip and get put into our groups. Everyone in our group seemed really nice. After an early night we were up at 7 in the morn to organise our 4 wheel drive vehicles. They needed to be packed. So much was to go in them, tents, cooking equipment, food and most importanly all our drink. I didn't think WE were going to fit in!
A while later we set off. We crossed over on the barge to Fraser Island and drove off along the sandy beaches. It was so beautiful over there. We had 4 drivers in our group including me and Lauren. The first afternoon we went to Lake Mackenzie. It was stunning. The water is completely pure and is so clear. We spent all afternoon there playing ball games and getting to know each other. We had to leave in order to set up camp before dark. It was a bumpy journey along dirt tracks but we eventually got to our campsite for the night. Some people put up the tents while others started cooking dinner. After dinner all 4 groups came together to play some games and have a singalong. Luckilly someone brought a guitar! It was really dark and the dingos kept apearing! It was a good night. However sleeping in the tent wasn't the warmest experience of my life. I was happy for morning to come to get out in the sun.
After breakfast that morning we all walked to a nearby shipwreck. It was pretty cool. After that we drove out to Indian Head. It was a steep walk up but from the top there were some incredible views. From here we could see into the sea, which was so clear we saw mantarays and sharks swimming by. Incredible. I could have stayed there all day! However we had to move on. We had some lunch then decided to try drive to the Champagne Pools. Unfortunately we managed to get the car completely stuck in sand! It was not going to budge. We spent the next hour digging and trying to figure out how to get free. A friendly passer by eventually let down our tyre pressure for us which did the trick! We were free!
That night we had an incredible sunset. The sky was all pinky purple. We stayed as just our group that night after dinner. We played some games and it was really good fun. All the other groups had gone to bed and we were the only ones still up. There were a lot of dingos here. Not great when you have to pee on the beach! Scary!
On our 3rd and final day we went to Lake Wabby. To get there we had to walk quite a distance across sandy dessert in the heat of the day. It was worth it when we got there. The water was freezing but cooled us down nicely. There were sand dunes running down into it so the boys all rolled down straight into the lake! It was big and apparently very deep. You couldn't see the bottom.
Unfortunately we were coming to the end of Fraser Island. We had to make out way back in time for the 3 o clock barge. We had had such a good time. We had gorgeous weather, Fraser Island was incredible and we enjoyed exploring it and best of all we had great company. I couln't have asked for a better group. It was the best fun. Once we got back from Fraser I was in desperate need of a shower. Our group planned to have a team bbq back at the hostel for one last meal together. We ended up buying so much food we couln't finish it all!
We visited the beach in Rainbow beach the following morning. The cliffs were all multicoloured. We then left and drove south to the gold coast. We found a campsite and Andy tried his hand at cooking on a campstove. He made us some delicious chicken fajitas. We spent the next few days at the theme parks, Dreamworls and Whitewater World. I loved Dreamworld and it was pretty quiet so we never jhad to queue for long to get on anything. There were 6 thrill rides there and we all went on all of them. A couple were pretty scary. THe next day we went to Whitewater World the water park. It was empty and we were pretty much the only ones there. It was such good fun. I loved all the flumes!
Where the theme parks are is where the Australian Big Brother House is. We were happy to know that that evening was eviction night and we were able to purchase tickets for the event. We jumped at the chance! It was so exciting. We had to queue for ages but when we got into the studio it was worth it. We even got upgraded to more central seats. The presenters were there and all the camera men etc. Whenever they did an audience shot we cheered and waved and hoped we made it on tv! Saxon was evicted and he came into the studio for an interview. It was interesting seeing how it is all done. After all the excitement of that evening we drove on to Surfers Paradise.
