Target today was White Cliffs. First leg was about 120km to Wilcannia on a mostly dirt road. Weather was overcast but little rain was forecast. The early stage of the drive was ok but conditions deteriorated rapidly and it became clear that a lot of recent rain had occurred creating really slippery & muddy conditions. In 4wd and with tyre pressures reduced, It was still difficult keeping the car from sliding onto the road shoulders where it was very boggy.
But we made it (and later learnt that the road had been closed)! The subsequent drive to White Cliffs was on bitumen - had enuf mud for a long while.
White Cliffs was the site of the first opal mining in Australia. Had Sunday Roast at the Sporting Club and were regaled by 'winteries' regaling us with stories of the community and the mining.
With all dirt roads closed in the area we have decided to backtrack to Wilcannia and head for Cobar.

CnR Good thing that the road was no longer closed.
