Hello! Well since my last blog Claire and I have been to Cherating and back. Unfortunately we chose to go at one of the busiest times of the year, bank holiday and everyone else in Malaysia seemed to have the same idea! Thus, we had to pay a fair wack for accommodation, however we did end up with a whole apartment which was rather nice. The only down side was we were by the pool, and there was a family weekend there for the employees of a Malaysian bank and the Kareoke went on until quite late for a few of the nights!

Cherating was a four hour bus ride away to the state of Pahang, in the North East of Malaysia. To get there we had to go the city of Kuanatan and then catch a local bus that went along the coast. It was quite possibly one of the scariest bus journeys of my life, the only seat left was right next to the door and they did not shut the door for the whole journey as it was so hot! Needles to day we got a tai back to Kuanatn instead of the bus.

Cherating itself is actually a small seaside village which is very quiet. However it was fairly busy due to the bank hol. Basically we spend about four days just lying on the beach and eating gorgeous seafood! The beach is lovely, except for the section where everyone parks, no one seems to care about littering the beach here! There was lots of sea life, unfortunately Claire got stung by a Jelly fish but it must have been a small one as she had no major allergic reaction.

We found a lovely Mamak to go to in Cherating. They have Mamaks all over Malaysia, they are basically where all the locals hang out for good food and drinks (non-alocholic). This Mamak specialised in sea food, and you could choose which prawns and which pieces of squid you wanted to eat, they then cooked it to your liking. All the food was amazing, the best I have had since in Malaysia.

On our last morning in Cherating we went to the Turtle Sanctuary. Green turtles lay their eggs on certain areas of the beach and a sanctuary has been set up to help protect the turtles and their eggs. Unforuantely during our time in Cherating they did not come up onto the beach to lay eggs at night or we would have gone. However the sanctuary has a few fully grown turtles and the latest batch of baby turtles which they are keeping safe for the time being, so we went to see them! The fully grown turtles are huge!

We left Cherating at lunch time and before boarding the bus we had our cheapest lunch ever at another local Mamak, which was about 10 pence! We had Roti Canai, which is basically just a pancake/thin Nann bread, that is served with three lentil curries to dip into and it is delicious!

Once back we had Wednesday free and then our last two lessons on the Thursday and Friday. Friday as well as being out last teaching day, was also the last day of term for the girls and so everyone was very excited about going home for a week! I had planned a lesson for the afternoon, but I soon realised not much work would get done and so we just played some English language games!

We had planned to leave for Penang today, however due to the school holidays we are unable to get tickets until sunday so we have another day here in KL. Last night we both went and had a facial (things like this are so cheap here!) and then we went to watch Indiana Jones (which I thought was good!). The cinema is so cheap, it costs about two pounds. So all in all a good night.

Thats all for now. We are going back to the cinema to see the new Narnia film. We didnt plan to stay an extra day in KL so we are thinking og things to do pass the time!
