Off early this morning for our tour to the countryside - Zaanse Schans (a village with lots of working windmills), then along the "cheese" route (saw pyramid-roofed farmhouses, and lots of cows - the land is too soft for crops, most of this area is 4 - 7 m below sea level). We travelled across the dyke wall to Marken (a fishing village on an island of re-claimed land), where we visited a clog factory. We then rode the 'famous' ferry from Marken to Volendam (across the lake) where we had a tour of the cheese factory before viewing some of the houses with 'dressed' windows on the walk back to the bus. Back in Amsterdam, Cathy and I did a walking tour of the city - the flower market and the Red Light district, before heading home. Dinner at Wurst'n'SchnitzelHaus at Centraal Station. Wayne ordered Heineken with icecream!
