We left Budapest at 10:45 this morning and were very grateful for a sleep-in. On the road to Gyor we saw lots of fields of golden sunflowers and the main industry outside the town was a large production plant for Audi. It was very hot in Gyor (about 37 degrees) so I was glad to walk under the spray-mist showers in the middle of the main pedestrian street. We started the day at 8am with our local guide Victoria. First we went up to the Fisherman's Bastion, which was originally medieval but rebuilt after the war. Sights included St Matthew's church (Christian but with mosaic-tiled roof which gives it a mosque-like appearance), the Obelisk, Hilton hotel (built around the ruins of a Roman church, and where ZsaZsa Gabor always stayed), the Cultural House, old technical university buildings and great views over the city...

We crossed the border into Hungary, making it our third country in one day, and saw lots of flat plains and sunflower fields. After crossing the Danube and seeing lots of people on the little beaches enjoying the river, we arrived into Budapest city late afternoon.
