FARFRUMWURKEN
For those who know me, you know that I've been a U.S. Election junkie over these past eighteen months, for days, weeks and months I’ve yelled at the T.V. if only to inject some sanity in the overall campaign. Today, I arrive in Albany, Australia on Wednesday, November 9th (one day in the future I suspect) - and I find that it’s finally the END to my long, very, very strange trip - the vote is in. Our 45th President Elect is Donald J. Trump and he has just made his acceptance speech on MSNBC. It seems that he has everything going for him on this momentous night, he has won the House, won the Senate and the I guess the opportunity for changes to the Supreme Court. We’ll have to look to this new administration who’s first task must be to deal with the financial dump that’s occurred to the world’s markets as a result of this election. What’s done is done – I only hope that I can look back four years from now and say well-done Donald.
We arrived in Albany today, to overcast, gloomy skies. I guess it should have been considered a sign. But I digress again. The temperature here is a very far cry from what we’ve been used to, getting off the ship to 57 degrees F and "fairy" rain as the local shuttle bus drive referred to it. It seems that the business of the day was to buy sweaters, hoodies or long sleeve shirts to stay warm.
It’s a wet, Mediterranean climate here in Albany. It receives an average of 942 mm of rainfall a year and the average summer temperature is only 72 degrees F. I have to say that there’s really not much going on here. I only took one picture in town so that seems to tell the story.
We have two sea days ahead of us before we pull into Adelaide on November 12th. To put just a little excitement into these upcoming sea days, we’ve booked dinner at the specialty dining room – Cannaletto tomorrow and lunch at the Pinnacle Grill the following day. To all those friends of mine that held results of tonight’s election contrary to mine – I have to say congratulations – I just never imagined that something like this could ever, ever happen.
