FARFRUMWURKEN
Well today is travel day. We loaded up the huge Ford Expedition with the luggage and we head out on the road as planned for 08:30 a.m. We were all in agreement that we should head out via HOTlanta rather than going via Ashville. A few years ago when we were heading to Biltmore, we came across an accident on the highway up in the mountains and ended up getting stuck there for hours. We figured the best go would be to stick to the Interstate.
The rental traveled like a champ. Eighty m.p.h. and it seemed like we were standing still and accommodated all the luggage for the three of us. It's been 19 years since I last came down for the Masters so I thought I had to go by if for just a hat. When we arrived in Augusta, there were people everywhere. And this was only the Par-3 round, competition doesn't really start until tomorrow.
When we tried to book a hotel room for Wednesday night we couldn't find a spot, even up to three hours south of Bluffton. It was a little concerning to say the least - guess all the rooms were filled by the thousands of golfers in the area for the big event. At any rate, I started my search all over again with B&B's and finally found a cottage in Bluffton on the May River. If it's anything like the pictures, I'm sure it will be great.
We arrived in Bluffton, about 500 odd miles from Knoxville, so I was glad to get out of the driver's seat. Thankfully the GPS got us to the right spot at 14 Palmetto Beach Lane and it's amazing. We have a two-bedroom cottage decorated to the nines. It's a great spot.
Tomorrow it's off to take a tour of the old town in a horse & carriage around Beaufort and then lunch in Hilton Head. We're planning a nice dinner in Savannah tomorrow evening, hopefully I can get some good shots of the old estates and downtown charm of this historic city. Stay tuned for the shots in tomorrow's edition.
Thanks to those of you who are following us. The numbers seem to grow each day. It's appreciated.
