FARFRUMWURKEN
Wouldn't you know it, we woke up in Reno to a Winter Storm Warning - Roads Closed and only vehicles with chains could proceed. There were lots of road closures but it seemed that the closures were to be lifted around 1:00 p.m. so we decided to have a nice breakfast at The Milano Cafe in the Peppermill - take some time and check out at 11:00 a.m. Downtown Reno was quite a mess, but we decided to "roll the dice" and head out towards Las Vegas.
After we got out of town and got through most of the worst spots, Deb thought she'd like to take the wheel on this big rig so we switched and Deb drove all the way to Scotty's Junction and did a great job - handled this great for the first time ever driving a truck of this size.
The one thing that we've noticed since leaving Bellingham, the weather changes so much. We've been through five (5) U.S. states (Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada and Arizona) and you can't believe the diversity of the weather.
I took over the driving role at Scotty's Junction and as much as it hurt, we decided to forego stopping in Las Vegas (I can't believe that I did that) in favour of putting on some extra miles so that Deb can spend a little more shopping time in Santa Fe, New Mexico tomorrow afternoon.
We pulled into Vegas at about 7:00 p.m and arrived into Kingman around 9:30. While the drive from Reno (in the late afternoon) was great and very picturesque, the roads are as straight as an arrow and you can virtually see oncoming cars (headlights are mandatory during the days) about 35 to 40 miles away in the distance.
I've calculated that there are approximately 150 white spaced center line markings per mile - that being said it means that we've passed approximately 209,550 little white rectangles on our trip so far from Bellingham to Kingman, Arizona. It's not that I get bored easily, but you need something to do on these roads. The roads here in Arizona are very well marked for night driving with both orange and white reflectors - so that could be tomorrow's project.
