An interesting bus ride to Potosi, the highest city in the world. We were on a local bus which wasn't the most comfortable but we had a cute little girl across from us who kept us entertained. Once in Potosi we found a taxi that took us to Sucre with 2 others for the same price as the bus and only took 2 hours instead of 4. Sucre is lovely, went out for a wonder and supper in a sweet French restaurant.

Horay sunshine and no wind, first time we've felt warm in ages. Spent until the early afternoon sitting out on the roof terracethen had a roam around the city. Sucre is up there with the most beautiful cities we've been to, neon signs are banned and all the buildings are white washed once a year so everything looks well kept. We're staying right in the centre near the Plaza 25 where all the bars, cafes and restaurants are and with the main market across the road we are in the perfect spot. The market is a mix of just about anything and everything you can imagine from party stuff to pigs heads!

What a difference a day makes! The whole feel of the city was turned upside down today when a peaceful demonstration that we walked past at 10:30am on our way to a cafe on the Plaza turned into a full on riot. The first we knew of it some women and kids came running into the cafe then the doors were shut and locked, they were all coughing and the poor kids started being sick. Then the cafe filled with tear gas , we've never experienced anything like it, the smell, the taste and stinging eyes, it carried on well into the evening. We left the cafe at 5pm and the crowds were very intimidating but we couldn't walk round them as they hadblocked all of the roads to the Plaza with the Police at the end of each road. When we headed out later on to try and get something to eat they had started throwing rocks and burning tyres in the street so no traffic could get through. We only found one place that was open for food so got some to takeaway and got back to our room as the whole courtyard filled with tear gas so put a towel up against the door and decided to have a night in.

Sucre a city of contrasts. Today is a full on family day. A rally track has been set up around the city with everyone lining the streets as the cars shoot through, no barriers obviously! Apart from a very strong blast of tear gas being picked up by the cars as they fly by and the remnantsof burnt tyres the city is back to normal. Got some Casa Real weren't really sure what spirit it was but it certainly knocked up for 6. I had a little siesta then joined Tom and a French couple for supper at the French restaurant, natter on the terrace til late.

Oh our heads, bad bad Cas Real. Had pack up our bags too. The rally was on again but with better cars and crossers, one of which ploughed into the crowd near the junction we were watching from so we headed away and watched from Los Balcones restaurant. Night bus to La Paz, semi cama-yey.
