Chennai or Madras as it was formerly known is famous for its beach. We arrived it Chennai after a 3 hour train journey from Pondicherry, followed by another 30 minute journey on the infamous 'local trains', not something I would rush to experience again! Standing on the platform a train pulled up, our train apparently, clearly there wasn't enough room for 3 people and their bags...how wrong I was! It turns out there was somehow room for us and 20 others. With 2 bags, a FULL carriage and a smell akin to a outback drop toilet the train ride wasn't one I would cherish, but hey! It was an experience. Since we were on a roll with our transport we decided to catch a tuk tuk from the hotel to the beach, however, finding a driver that would actually take you to the beach and not his mum's-brother's-cousin's-friend's-goldfish's shop was a trial and error experience to say the least! After getting in and subsequently out of 3 tuk tuks we made it to the beach after a few hours there we attempted to catch a tuk tuk back to the hotel, to get a further insight into that experience please just reread my previous tuk tuk experience above!
