Day 4 23/05/2013 Sturt NP to Tibooburra.
Well, what a difference a day makes! The photo says it all! We packed up and made it into Tibooburra .only 25 km down the track......but what a muddy track it was!
When we got there we found that ALL roads in and out had been closed! In this very small town ( normal pop 120), there must have been at least that number again of stranded travellers. If we thought our vehicle and camper was muddy..... it wasn't! We hadn't actually been driving in the rain! There were sorry tales of people slipping and sliding all over the roads as they attempted to make it into town last night. Some vehicles, (we heard), had to be abandoned, with the occupants managing to hitch a ride with others. People who were tent camping had opted for motel rooms. All in all, the town was pretty busy with people desperately waiting for news of imminent road re-openings. By 9 am the decision was made ...... roads would would stay closed and be re-assessed at 3pm!
So we decided to stay! One of the NP campgrounds 2km out of town was still open and so we headed for that and made camp. There has been more rain this afternoon !
We will have to wait and see what tomorrow brings!
