Day 3 22/05/2013 Sturt NP Lots of heavy rain and wind during the night! Puddles everywhere this morning! Stepping on the ground resulted in very muddy shoes AND feet!! What to do?
An advisory sign stating 'Road Closed when Wet', meant that we couldn't do the self-drive tour around the park we had been planning for today. So......we also decided that if we attempted to drive into Tibooburra, (leaving the camper-trailer here), we might be prevented from driving back if the road was closed. A day pottering around our camp had to be the plan!
Fortunately, in spite of threatening clouds, the rain held off, and overall the day was quite sunny (but cold).
A walk around the Mt Wood Homestead; a game of scrabble; some reading and another exploratory walk.....resulting in us finding an abandoned 'tip', littered with car parts, car bodies etc, from around the 1950's......helped us to pass the time. (We later found out that this was a 'heritage' tip!!!).
We saw not another soul all day!
It continued to be windy, getting windier later in the afternoon. However this helped in the drying process and by early evening we were no longer sinking into the ground! Hopefully the roads will be dry enough for us to drive out tomorrow, although where to might be the question, if other roads in the area have been closed!
Dave cooked a very tasty chicken and mushroom risotto (from scratch!), which we ate as the sun went down.
Fingers crossed for no more rain.
