My boss had been on holiday since last Tuesday, so I haven't really been working much so far. Instead, I have been hanging out around the hostel and town mostly- I went with a couple people to this random little bar to watch a soccer match, which was fun. The place was packed and raucous; I guess it is true that for the rest of the world outside the U.S. soccer is like a religion. There was a French reggae band staying at my hostel over the weekend and they played a show on Saturday at Ricky's friend's bar. I haven't heard live music in awhile so that was fun. I hadn't ever heard French reggae before but it was actually really good. The next day, after only 4 hours of sleep, I went with Ricky, his girlfriend Maria and two of their friends to some hot springs an hour outside of Windhoek. They were definitely not up to my Oregon hot springs standard as it was just two swimming pools, but it was a fun day because we just hung out and had a braii (barbeque) and swam a bit. It was really nice to get out of the city for a day. I realized I'm not really cut out for living in a city where you have to worry about getting mugged. It's not a very big city, not too much bigger than Eugene, but it's stressful to have to worry about that while you are walking around town. So it was nice to get out and just relax for the day. I'm still not sure how the work part of this experience is going to go, since my boss won't be back until Wednesday or Thursday this week, but hopefully we can work out some projects for me to do.
