After a grueling day and a half of traveling I finally arrived in Windhoek. Ricky, the man who set up my housing here, met me at the airport which was really helpful. He took me to where I live, which is a nice place with about 15 other people living in it dorm style. It has an awesome back and front patio and a pool, which I'm stoked on since it is so so hot here. My poor Oregon body is not used to it. Windhoek is a smallish city, not too exciting architecturally, but I like that it's not too big and seems pretty mellow. Ricky took me around to different places in town yesterday and today which was really nice, I now theoretically know where the main places I might want to go are. Theoretically, because I am terrible with directions and most of the street names are in German, whose pronunciation I don't feel too hopeful about ever mastering. We went to his friend's bar and hung out with him and his girlfriend and friends, drinking Windhoek's beer (which I think is surprisingly good, especially considering my snobby Oregon beer tastes) and talking. It was so nice to just relax and hang out. Everyone has been really nice to me and I feel pretty comfortable. Tomorrow we are going to check out Katatura, which is the township next to Windhoek, and then Monday I start my internship, which I'm nervous and excited for.
Hope everyone is doing well back at home!
