I went to Swakopmund, a coastal town, last weekend with one of my roommates. It was so nice to get out of Windhoek and especially nice to see the ocean again. Swakopmund is a small town where everyone goes for the holidays. There were hardly any people on the streets for some reason, but it was nice to be somewhere mellower than Windhoek. Some friends of ours have a sandboarding company there so on Saturday afternoon we went with them to the dunes to try it out. I wasn't sure how it was going to go since I have snowboarded only twice in my life, but it was really fun! You don't go as fast as on snow and the setting was amazing- there were dunes as far as you could see. The next day we did a Living Desert tour where you get to see all the life in the desert. The guide showed us a bunch of endemic animals that live on and around the dunes, like an adder, a translucent gecko, and a chameleon that we fed lunch to. I had no idea there were so many animals living in what seemed to be a place pretty devoid of life. (I am trying to post pictures but the internet over here is very slow)
This week has been pretty mellow, I've just been editing stories at work and hanging out. Tomorrow I am leaving for Johannesburg to see Rose though, which I'm really excited for!!!
