Within the past few weeks we have had a great time here in Reading with our friends. Here is what we have been up to:
Country Pub Walk - A few weeks ago we set out with some friends in Caversham for a country walk. We may have gotten lost a few times, but it was a blast none the less. Finally making it back to our cars we drove out to a fun country pub for dinner and drinks. Despite Erin's effort, she could not get the giant Burmese mountain dog to come out from behind the bar and join us. We had a delicious dinner and a great night out!
Dinner and Dance Off - We decided it would be fun to go to a dinner dance as a big group. It was eighties themed music all night. Dinner was fantastic and it was followed by an awesome dessert. Everyone got to show off their dance moves and we were grooving all night long!
Beach Fail, but a Great Night Instead - We had all planned to go to the beach one Saturday, but when we woke up the weather was disgusting. It rained through the night and most of the morning. It would have made for a sad beach day. Instead, we decided to have everyone over to our flat for some fun drinking games. Ashley and David kindly brought us red solo cups from the states. These do not exist here. People host American themed parties and pay a premium to have the red solo cups sent to the UK. Because of this lack of red cup glory, our friends have never heard of such classics as flippy cup or boom cup. Some people caught on faster than others, but everyone had a great time!
The Long Haul to Henley - The night after having everyone over, a few of us decided to walk all the way from Reading to Henley. This is an easy train ride, but we wanted to walk the river all the way. This task was not so easy. It turns out that we were on the wrong side of the river for most of the journey and we could not find a bridge to get us to the correct side. A kind gentleman, with a gorgeous boat, graciously towed us across the river on his dingy. We had to go two at a time, but it saved us several extra miles of walking. After ten miles of hiking, and getting lost several times, we finally made it. We scarfed down a delicious dinner and opted to take the train back to Reading. Our feet were sore, our bellies were full, and we were all very happy!
This Weekend's Fun Schedule - We are planning on going to the beach tomorrow in Bournemouth. If the weather stays nice, we will be taking the train down to the coast and enjoying some sun!
