This weekend we made the westward trek by train to Bath, England. Though weather threatened our journey, the day was a success. We started out walking through Green Park and Queen Square to arrive at our destination: The Circus. The Circus is a group of homes that encompass a roundabout. Their architecture was phenomenal, as all of the homes were perfectly rounded (see pictures… kind of hard to explain). Many famous people at one time lived in the homes in The Circus, and there were many plaques above the doorways stating their names and dates that they resided in each home. We continued on our journey to the Royal Crescent. This structure took the same shape as the homes in The Circus, but was much larger. Its enormity was impressive, to say the least.
Just down the hill from the Royal Crescent we strolled into Royal Victoria Park and Gardens. We fed ducks and swans and enjoyed the peaceful area. As we were walking towards the exit of the park, we came across a miniature golf course. We stopped to play 18 holes of putt putt. You can guess who won… Erin. We left the park to walk to Pultney Bridge. This bridge is the home of many shops and cafes, and is right next to a large market. We stopped for lunch at the Riverside café. We experienced our first fish and chips and a delicious pork sandwich washed down with local brews.
After lunch we visited the Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths. The Roman Baths are one of the main tourist attractions in the town, and we could definitely see why. Many of the original structures remained intact from 74 A.D. Check out our pictures to see the details- we captured as many pictures as we could, but several of the baths/areas were too dark. After the self-guided tour, we had the opportunity to taste the natural spring bath water…. you know that taste when you're at the dentist and they knick your gum and it starts to bleed… yeah, that was the taste.
As we left the Roman Baths, the wind picked up to the point where kiosks in the middle of the street were falling over. We figured it was time to head home. The rest of our weekend was spent being lazy, relaxing, and trip planning!
Cheers!
