Boy the bed in this apartment is uncomfortable! It slopes to one side probably because the floor is a bit sloped. Needless to say we aren't sleeping too well here in Boston. Probably some of that is due to some concern regarding the aftermath of Sandy and making it to JFK tomorrow. The apartment is in a great location and is furnished quite tastefully. The bed is the only real problem which is a shame. The bus on which I booked seats last night is just about full now - thank goodness we booked them last night.
No sun yet today but at least it isn't raining and it's not that cold. Now that we have mastered the subway and the use of the Charlie Card - remember the song "Charlie on the MTA" about the man who was trapped forever on the Boston MTA - we will put it to use and go out to Harvard, the oldest university in the USA. We wander around the hallowed grounds and admire the statue of John Harvard taking pride of place in the main square. Harvard is a university town in every aspect ...... students everywhere and everything is geared to them. Brad reads in Lonely Planet that Brookline is a unique little town and worth a visit, so after Harvard, we descent to the subway like moles and re-surface at Brookline which turns out to be pretty ordinary and not particularly interesting at all. Ever since we arrived in the US, we have seen the chain Dunkin Donuts everywhere, even more than McDonalds. Just recently someone told us that the coffee there isn't too bad at all so we decide to try the Brookline branch. Well the coffee isn't bad, it's revolting!! Like dishwater! And so was the chocolate donut. Well I guess we would have never known unless we tried it.
This is our last night in the USA. Our Lufthansa flight is scheduled to leave for Frankfurt at an earlier time than previously scheduled - now 4:30pm instead of 4:45pm. We have checked in online so all we have to do is get to JFK.
