We are so fortunate to be waking up to another glorious morning - cool but no wind so it doesn't feel that cold. As we pack the car to continue our trip to Cape Cod, a guy comes out of a building across the road and asks if we are staying at the airbnb place. Of course he knows Mike the owner of our little apartment and so we start chatting. His name is Daniel Clayman and he is a glass sculptor. We are invited in to have a look at his workshop. He doesn't blow glass, he actually sculpts it into the most gorgeous modernn pieces. Its a very technical and long process and he is generous enough to show us all around his workshops and at some of his finished products awaiting shipment (see my pics from Rhode Island). The set of 3 pieces in one of the pictures has just been sold for $350,000. Have a look at his website: www.danielclayman.com for some more of his amazing art works.
The last thing we want to do is go to Cape Cod via the freeways. It is only 180km away and we have all day so once again the GPS is set to navigate from town to town via the shortest route. By doing this, we traverse some really picturesque byways until we reach the coastal town of Sandwich. We could have been in England......so pretty! Then on to Falmouth, Woods Hole and finally Hyannis. Our B&B Cape Cod Ocean Manor, is run by Martin, an expat Irishman who sounds like he arrived here yesterday. I want him to keep talking and he is happy to oblige. We are right opposite the beach and have a view of the sea from our little balcony. This weather surely can't last and tonight we hear that a hurricane is brewing way down in the Bahamas and should hit the north-east by Monday, including Boston. Let's hope it goes out to sea as is often the case.
Tonight's dinner was a mistake! The locally recommended Duck Inn pub was awful - food, music and clientele. We'll make our own choice tomorrow.
