Woke up yesterday morning to a glorious cold sunny day which was a real surprise considering it was still raining in the early hours of the morning. Acadia National Park entrance is only a few kms from our Inn and is extremely well sign posted and easy to get around by car, Oli's Trolley, summer shuttle or on foot over dozens of trails of varying standard. We elected to drive around the one-way road to Sand Beach and do the 7km cliff walk which took us past the Thunder Hole which sadly wasn't thundering at all, and Otter's Cliff where the otters seemed to be on strike. It didn't matter - the walk was very scenic and it was just nice to finally get out in the fresh air - very fresh indeed!! It isn't often that I complete a walk of that distance still wearing 2 merino layers + a fleece jacket and fleece hat!! Oh yes, my merino tights too under my walking pants too!!
All that activity deserved a capuccino after we dumped our gear at the inn but that proved to be hard to find. Most places (including our inn where coffee is on tap free all day) serve that all-day coffee that America is so famous for, but we eventually found a tiny little cafe which did serve capuccinos .....not so good but close.
With the impending US election, there are electoral ads everywhere and the news is filled with it. Maine appears to be an Democrat state but the tide is changing rapidly. Last night was the debate between the vice presidential candidates Paul Ryan and Joe Biden, and as there is very little to watch on TV even with 95 station from which to choose, we ended up watching it when we got back from a lovely dinner at McKays Pub, not the sort of pub establishment we know, more like an inn. Anyway our shared meal of beet salad, glazed duck breast with veg plus blueberry pie, also shared was excellent. The meals here weren't enormous but sharing was the way to go to taste more and eat less. The debate didn't enlighten us all that much.............. who knows who quoted the correct facts and figures.
Today it is drizzling again so it looks like a day of driving through a different section of the national park and walking when we get the chance.

Kerrin I can only imagine how much campaigning is going on over there for the election. Our news isn't much better in terms of the constant reports on the slagging matches between Julia and tony. Very boring!! Keep writing the blogs....loving hearing about your (and Ele's) adventures!
