Erica's Travels
We have now been in Malaysia for 11 nights and have travelled from Langkawi, to Penang and finally Kaula Lumpur.
Langkawi was a lovely island, which we rented a moped and travelled round to see the beaches and markets. The people are friendly, and the food is nice. Very much a mixture of chinese and muslim community.
Basically you get your pick of either chinese food or indian...its like having a take away everynight. The cheapest we have eaten for is 19 RM, which is about 1.50 each...can't be bad.
Its easy to get round and you actually get nice buses when going on long journeys.
I have now bought myself a laptop with wireless connection so logging on is easy as I just need to be near a star bucks or other unsecured network and email access I have....yipeee. Its also useful for watching DVDs etc.
Its funny in the UK they are trying to stop copying of DVDS but here it is done openly and you can buy a copy of any film for just over a pound....as you can imagine we have already bought 6 dvds and will buy more. Good thing is I can store them on the laptop....yeeeessss
Penang is an old time, with quite a few rats hidden in the gutters...nice! Our first night it pissed down with rain...and when it rains it rains. We ended up walking through the streets back to the hostel with water up our legs...had new trainers on..addidas I will have you know and they got soaked...took two days to dry. It was fun though!
Kaula Lumpur is a nice city, but the price of drink is the same as the UK....humf....not fair.
Once again we are trying the food stalls you get on the side of the street and they are all excellent and good value for money. The other night we had lemon chicken, fried rice, and duck...oh and a few drinks too and it all came to 55 RM which is about 8 pounds.
They also have more shopping malls here than you can shake a stick with...and when they build a shopping mall they go to the extreme....the times square shopping mall has a mini theme park in it with a roller coaster...yup you heard right a roller coaster! Can you believe it. It has 10 floors and an imax cinema on the top floor. Great fun! Mind you I think they have too many fast food places as compared to other SE Asia places there are quite a few fat malaysians here....and quite a few chubby kids...think they should reconsider their diets.
Anyway, tomorrow we are going to Singapore...another place to try.
From there we will be going to Indonesia and of course the xmas break in Lombok.
Anyway that's all for today
