Everything is going quite slowly at the yard for us. We were told last week that this week was going to be the week when everything happened - so far NOT. It's only Tuesday afternoon so I suppose anything could happen yet. In fairness everyone has been very busy getting lots of the big boats in the water for the season. Of course all the owners want them in NOW.
Peter is having a "man shed" made in the front starboard locker. Lots of shelves for plastic boxes and a work bench. I may never see him again…..It will be good to have some of the parts, scuba gear and less often used tools out of the cockpit cupboards though.
When we were in Bordeaux we bought a Soda Stream as we loved our one on Chat Eau Bleu. Something got lost in translation and we ended up with the spare gas bottles having the wrong attachment. There didn't appear to be anywhere in Greece or Turkiye that sold or refilled them until I saw a post on a forum I watch where someone had found a place in Istanbul. With the help of the ever helpful and effective Atilla, we ordered 10 so we now have soda water for this summer and probably nest summer. It saves buying a lot of plastic bottles, lugging them back to the boat, storing them, then throwing them out.
It is now Monday of week three on the hard and still not much major progress. It is getting very long turning up here each and every day at 8.30 only to sit here in the heat waiting for things not to happen. It will be all last minute crisis management it seems. At least the hulls ae now completely sanded back and ready for antifouling. Kiki and Cora come back from holidays tomorrow. It will mean we don't have to be here the whole day and can get some other things done in town. Like getting some folding chairs for the deck and for taking to dock parties and ashore etc. The ones in the cockpit and flybridge ae far too heavy.
I hope the next blog will see us back in the water!! I don't think it's a very healthy environment on the hard stand - fibre glass sanding dust, antifoul sanding dust, spray products. Australian Work Place Health and Safety would have a conniption if they came here. Having said that they would have been traumatised in the Caribbean and Trinidad too.
Post Script: Dare I say it - some work is happening!!
