16th June 2009

We left our campsite around 10ish this morning. It was only about an hour and a half drive here. We stopped in a place called cardwell on the way to have lunch, we pulled up right next to the beach. It is even hotter today, its so nice. So we had lunch and then Mike decided to make a man on the beach using his clothes and drawing in his arms and legs and took about half an hour trying to get the best picture of it! He ended up taking about 20 photos! We will put just one up as he was very proud of his random artwork!!

So we arrived soon after at Mission Beach, its a small town but really nice. there isnt much to do here but we really like it. It has a nice beach, and little shops along the main street. We found a really really cheap campsite right on the beach, our campervan is parked less than 20 feet from the sand!! The cheapest and best location we have had. We headed straight for the beach, sunbathed for a while and then I promised Mike I would go in the sea probably as have been a wimp and not gone in fully yet as to cold, lol. The sea here is actually warm, its quite nice. So we played frisbie for a while, im not very good though, it never seems to go far, whereas Mike nearly chops my head off everytime, lol.

We have decided to stay here for another nigth as we just want to chill and relax for the last 2 days before we hand Rupert back over! So after laying on the beach and going into the sea we took a walk along the shops. There arent many but it has what you need!! Including a chinese takeaway which smelt soo good and as fish and chip shop! We were so tempted to get a takeaway but we ended up just getting chips which we demolished!! As the sun was setting we went back onto the beach for another competitive game of pebble points! I won again by a mile!! Then we played "extreme frisbie". If either of us missed the catch, the other gave a forfit, lol. Which included stupid stuff like press ups and spotty dogs, I made Mike sing a stupid song really loud, haha. O the joys of acting 10 again!! We had some bargain meatballs and sauce with pasta for dinner tonight which was really good!

17th June 2009

There wasnt any rush to leave the campsite this morning as we had a second night already paid for so we had a more lazy morning. We took a wander around the shops and went on the internet to book accomodation in Cairns as we drop Rupert off their tomorrow, sad times :-( but in less than 2 weeks we will be in a bigger campervan in New Zealand!!!! We then sunbathed on the beach for a couple of hours, its even warmer today, its been such nice weather. We both went in the sea again. We also found a coconut, so Mike spent quite a while trying to get into it. After banking it on a massive rock and scraping it with a stone, he managed to get past the first shell etc. He then managed to put a hole in the top of it so we could drink the coconut milk, which after throwing most of it down myself, lol, i tried some. It didnt taste of too much but Mike liked it. He then smashed it on the ground and it broke in half so we cut the cocnut out which was so nice!! Mike was very proud of his coconut achievement, lol!!

Tonight we just had to sort our van out and pack our bags ready for tomorrow. We have really enjoyed having the campervan again, we have officially driven all the way from Adelaide to Cairns, I dont know the exact distance we have driven but it is well over 3000k, we have both really enjoyed it and still think it is the best way to see Oz, as you find towns and bays a bus wouldnt take you to. We have 10 days when we get to Cairns tomorrow, to just chill and not do alot as we need to spend as little as poss! We are hopefully booking rafting in Tully and may go to Port Douglas for a couple of days!
