On Saturday we began the lovely journey down to the islands. The first part involved two 4hr bus journeys down to Bangkok. We then stayed the night in Bangkok and I met up with some people from New Zealand again which was nice. We then caught a night bus down to Chumporn, on which I failed to sleep at all. Over the last few days we have been doing our community project, which was helping to clear up an orphanage. The first day was really productive as there was so much rubbish to be cleared. However on the second day we had to teach the children to use bins that we had donated to them, and then there wasn't really much to do. We just ended up playing with the children, however I am sure they appreciated this. On the last day we were meant to make bamboo bins, also ...

Last week we left Kanchanburi for the smaller town, near the Burma border, of Sangkhlaburi. On the way we visited Hell's Fire Pass, part of the death railway which was particularly bad for the number of deaths it caused.Whilst in Sangkhlaburi we went elephant trekking which was amazing, though it did feel sometimes like there wasn't much to stop us falling off! It's a bit higher than a horse as well so would of been painful!

On Wednesday we went to visit another waterfall and went for a walk to a cave. It was very nice inside but quite scary climbing down ladders which looked like they might break! Anyway we all came out alive and after lunch caught a train on the death railway. Apparently it's called the death railway because of all the prisoners of war that died building it, but the ride itself was also a bit dodgy with the train somehow bouncing around alot!! On Sunday we travelled to Kanchanaburi where we are staying in a beautiful hotel next to the river Kwai. We have a pool and river view rooms with balconies, and no bunk beds in sight, it's like paradise! On our first evening we went on a floating restaurant along the river then into town to explore.Yesterday we went to Erawan National Park and walked up the 7 tiers of the waterfall which was beautiful!
