On Wednesday we went to visit another waterfall and went for a walk to a cave. It was very nice inside but quite scary climbing down ladders which looked like they might break! Anyway we all came out alive and after lunch caught a train on the death railway. Apparently it's called the death railway because of all the prisoners of war that died building it, but the ride itself was also a bit dodgy with the train somehow bouncing around alot!! We finished the day by going for a walk over the bridge over the river Kwai and visiting a market.
Thursday was a temple visiting day. The first temple, the dragon temple was in a cave, the entrance was made into a dragon with the steps leading up to it the dragons Tongue. It was very impressive! Here we learnt how buddhists pray and worship Buddha. In another temple we met a monk who taught us to meditate. We then went to a British temple, tesco! Did some shopping and had an ice-cream. In the evening we went out for dinner and drank 10 baht (20p) drinks, sat on buckets in the road!
I spent today relaxing by the pool, but had a break for a nice Thai massage! It's a tough life! Tomorrow we are going to our next place, Sangkhlaburi where I will be going back to being a true backpacker, Thai style! We have been prepared for the accomodation not being great, so that could be interesting!!

mummy mallett Emz, Enjoy your last day of R&R then before you head off into the wilds of Thialand! Did you get very drunk with the cheap drinks- ie sitting on buckets in the road doesnt sound very sober?? Dad already looking forward to your thia cooking on your return! Love U!xxx
Frank & Val Hi Em, Just the job, sightseeing and bucketing, (one for your diary, read "the Forgotten Highlander by Alisistair Urquhart, and that REALLY explains how that railway was built now that you have seen it). Bucket drinks sounds about right wait till you get into the kampongs , Happy travels Luv xx
Nan & Gdad Delighted to hear that the fun is continuing and hope the next stage is just as good even if the sleeping arrangements may be a bit dodgy! Raining and miserable here but not cold. Love Nan & Gdadxxx
Nan & Gdad On reading your blog again reminded me that my uncle (your great great uncle) died while a prisoner of war in that area. He died of a disease called beri-beri. Although I was very young, 4ish, I can remember the grief in the family. On a cheerier note, we have just had a lovely weekend at the farm (lovely company, not weather!). Hugo seems fine after his operation and all the animals send their love! Love from Nanx
Emma How interesting, but very sad. Even more glad I went and saw it now. Glad you had a nice weekend. I have just managed to successfully skype home at ladt! Saw Hugo and he certainly looked fine! Love Emma xxx
