Oh my, where do I start?..
As a group of 10 we headed to Jinja (Jinja is in the East of Uganda and the source of the River Nile)
As soon as we turned up we were kitted up and ready to go White Water Rafting without the opportunity to get nervous.
Personally I'm not very confident in water and don't enjoy water sports so I wasn't looking foward to the next 31km we were planning on spending in our raft.
We did 11 rapids ranging from Grade 3 to Grade 5.
I remember going towards a Grade 5 rapid and Josh (rafting instructor) telling us that it was had a 10ft waves. We had already flipped before that and I had got stuck under the boat and when I finally came back up after panicking the rapids took me and I just wasn't able to breathe with all the water in my face, so Josh telling us that our first Grade 5 was coming up, I was pretty scared, especially as the rapid waves went up to 10ft high. I shouted "mamma ne tata, nkwagala nyyo" - Mum and dad, I love you and we went head first into it and I don't know how we didn't flip but I was happy not to of done so! We were very lucky to of only flipped twice. I was so thankfull as I don't think I could of continued if we had flipped more than that!
The last rapid of the day was a Grade 4 called 50/50 and it was next to a Grade 6. We walked around the hill, carrying the rafts as we couldn't go through the Grade 6 and seeing what was ahead I nearly burst into tears. Unexperienced rafters can only go to Grade 5 rapids, Grade 6's can actually kill people, so to see that our course was next to a Grade 6, I just couldn't do it. We had seen the raft beforehand get taken by the Grade 6 and they were scattered everywhere! I don't know where it came from but I climbed in the raft and we went, of course with me using alot of 'French' on the way down!! How we made it I don't know, but that's why it's called Rapid 50/50. I was sooo happy with myself :D
Sunday was Bungee day...
We were all up at 9am very very scared. 145 feet up and I was actually peeing a little bit. Sophie was meant to of gone first and started to cry but good on her she ended up trying again and she did it. Emily fainted just before she jumped and they wouldn't allow her to go again. Heather was literally about to cry, she screamed and just jumped off. The boys were pale, shaking, we were all not confident about it at all but we all did it!
My turn I went up and Jack counts you in 1,2,3 JUMP. Yep he said it and I just stayed they legs shaking. 1,2,3 again and nope I didn't let go. He told me next go was my last chance and I wasn't allowed to try again. So 1,2 ahhh, I jumped and hated it the whole way down. I went waist deep into The Nile and coming back up my top came off but some how I manged to catch so was bouncing around in bra ;)
Vic didn't do it as she was really worried but Ben and Soph decided they wanted to do the bungee again at lunch time and out of the blue Vic was doing it too! She was mental - You could tell she was scared but she climbed the tower and even before Jack had finished counting she was gone! She really enjoyed herself and was very pleased she did it.
I was extremly proud of the whole group as we were all worried about different aspects of bungee and rafting but we did it together and we did it well :)
I'm just so happy to of said I've done White Water Rafting and Bungee Jumping. I didn't enjoy it know but I smiled the whole time and did it :D
I've haven't got enough time for photos today but they'll be online soon.
Lots of Love x x x
