This week I've been on duty but Madam Halimah has been kind to me letting me leave school early some days.
Monday and Tuesday we didn't teach as the P4, P5 and P6 classrooms were being cemented, so classes had to share their classrooms and teaching our lessons wasn't possible.
Also on Monday the new P1 teacher started, Madam Mandin, well I think that's her name.. Meeting her Monday morning I greeted with 'Goodmorning, I'm Emma' she looked at me, laughed and walked off. She's been like that all week, obnoxious. All I can say is if she's getting the job done, then manners to others doesn't matter.
On Wednesday I was walking up the hill to the main road carrying Prosscovia in P1 and as the roads were dusty I slipped, falling foward and luckily I was carrying Pross as my head landed on her stomach, otherwise it could of been the floor. Cut elbow and knee, I managed to get up and hug poor Pross who wasn't hurt, just shocked. I then had to catch a boda to The Surgery, fearing as I couldn't sit on it properly and trying to be as modest as possible keeping my skirt from flapping up whilst trying to hold on. It was crazy side saddling on a motorbike to A&E!
They cleaned the wounds and luckily it was nothing serious. I was walking through town and so many people where stopping to just look at me and say the legendary Ugandan phrase "Ohh Sorry!" At one point I had a man telling me to go to hospital and whilst I was explaining I had done, there were 4 people all bending down to look at me knee!
On Thursday I left the staffroom to go to my lesson and Vic heard Madam Halimah saying to Madam Samali 'She cannot stand by the blackboard, she will die' haha! All the teachers keep telling me that I'm going to catch fever as my knee is on show. They come out with some funny stuff :)
This weekend we went to Heathers project, 2 hours away in Kayabwe. Heather has been living her own since around March, due to her project partner going home. She's doing so well by herself. We knew that anyway, but going to see her school and home, I'm so proud of her. I'll put the photos online next weekend but despite the school falling apart and all the dust in her house (she lives on a main road) she lives in the beautiful surroundings and has the beautiful Lake Victoria just down the road.
It was a great weekend and I'm gutted we left it so late to go down and visit her.
Next weekend we're going out on Friday for Oscars last weekend, as he's leaving on the 5th and can't make it to de-briefing at the Dutch University starting date is at the same time. It's going to be really sad, as we might not be seeing him again!
I've now got 7 weeks left in Uganda, it's mad, my time is flying by!
I'm beginning to find my time out here harder now, mainly because I know that I'll be leaving soon, so I'm allowing myself to think about people back in England. The past 10months I've had to stop myself because as selfish as it sounds you cannot survive a year, if all your doing is thinking about England.
Lots of Love from Bulenga x x x
