Said my Goodbyes in Adelaide on 26th March and flew to Sydney, spent a few days there for Doms birthday, stayed in Coogee beach which was lovely and the weather was really hot. We then moved into the city and walked around the Opera house and visited darling harbour which is great at night with all the lights. Dom even climbed Harbour bridge for his birthday!
Our plans for a campervan were shattered as we hadnt planned ahead so we ended up flying to Melbourne and it was there i met up with some friends from Adelaide. We went up the tallest building in the southern hemisphere and got a great view over Melbourne, felt a tad giddy though! We also visited Melbournes Botanic gardens which were the best yet(there is one in evry city). You totally forget that you are even in a city! As Melbourne is where Neighbours is filmed we felt it our duty to go visit Ramsay Street (real name Pinoak Court), so we made our own way there on bus and train. It is a tiny street, couldnt believe how small! Vaguely recognise the houses, there is always a security guard there to make sure no one disturbs the real residents. After that the weather in Melbourne turned for the worst and rained so heavily, so we took a free city tram around with commentary! Something to fill up the rainy day (untill it started raining inside the tram)! My last night spent in Melbourne was seeing Steve Coogan perform which was sooo much fun!
We left Melbourne on 6th April and flew to Byron Bay. Byron is so humid and green! South Australia was so dry compared to the East coast. Its a small town with a beach, its nice to be away from the citys. Although this is totally set up purely for travellers. The weathers been tempremental, and it torentially rained last night resulting in us getting completely soaked! Then today its very windy but sunny. It feels like tropical weather. We walked up to Byron Bays lighthouse and on a bit further is the most easterly place in Australia. We are going to spend Easter here in Byron and wait for some friends to make their way up here and continue travelling the east coast with them.
The weather improved marvellously in Byron and we had a sunny easter weekend. Which was a good thing because it meant we didnt have to spend much time in our cockroach infested room! We blatently had a nest in the room as they were appearing left right and centre, reception jus stared blankly at us and told us that its Australia, accept it. Well ive been here 4 months and javent had to deal with them yet. We sprayed the room and then they decided all to go to one corner to die, so we ended up having a Cockroach graveyard in our room which didnt get swept! So conclusion, if u go to Byron do not stay at Main Beach Backpackers! As we had paid upfront we couldnt even move hostels. So anyway we moved onto the Arts Factory in Byron where we stayed in a Teepee dorm with 4 bunks in it. It was set in jungle and was really cool and laid back. During our stay we were visited in our teepee by many critters (expected when u dont have a door, but no cockroaches)! The yard was full of Iguanas and Bush Turkeys, we had a lizard come visit us in the teepee, a little mouse that was living behind the beds(which ate abbies closed packet of crisps and weed on her bed)! These were all bearable until we found the Huntsman, a spider the size of ur hand..in where we were sleeping!! That same night a Wolf Spider appeared on the bench we were sitting which jumped at me!!! Its poisonous so was removed from the grounds. Scarey stuff! I met some friends from Adelaide and bumped into a few others in a bar called Cheeky Monkeys where its so cheesey and you just go and dance on the tables all night! After 8 nights in Byron we decided to move on to Brisbane. We had booked a bus upto Brisbane but we had been double booked so were put onto another one all free of charge!! That saved us $34 each.
BRISBANE
Arriving in Brisbane i just expected it to be another city but it was amazing. It seemed smaller than the other cities id been to. The hostel we stayed in was lush and had a bar attached to it, the only downside..we were in a tiny room with 5boys!!! It wasnt ur normal hostel... We had OCD Canadian who spent an hour in the en suite shower at midnight, Irish Frankie who got wrecked every day/night even though he worked at 4am and another Irish called Colm. Funny few nights bossing around the boys though. We went to the Valley on Saturday night and went to the flashest club in town, just by chance as we met a local who knew the doorman and we got let straight in, no Q-ing. It was called Zuri Bar. After that we got an "Eco-Cab" home that was just a bike with a carriage on the back that took us home. Poor bloke was struggling to get up the hills with us on the back, hilarious though! We also visited the Lagoon in Brizzy which is a man made beach on Southbank, very nice. So, spent just the right amount of time in Brisbane and it has been the best party place yet (not always a good thing)! So off to Noosa we go....
