ok im actually in queenstown at the moment ive just arrived but id figure id update you on the goings on in lake heron. so since i last put an entry on here ive been mainly painting fence posts as work. we were suppose to leave on the 19th but i didnt want to go so soon i really loved that place. so i offered to work for free as a thankyou for the last week. last weekend we spent the saturday on the lake with the family rowing out on the boat and swimming, it was really warm and i got attacked be 2 leeches!! didnt hurt at all just made me jump when i saw them. that evening we had a bbq up at a shepherds hut in the valley. me joel and matthew stayed over night and went for a hike the next morning. it was quite a merry night so didnt find the hike easy the next morning. it was boiling hot and the climb was 1000m vertical, took us 6 hours to go up n back down. great views at the top!! i really wouldnt have made it if i didnt have the lads pushing me on.
o i completely fogot, on the friday before the bbq we went out hunting!! not a me thing to do but i couldnt give up the opportunity for such an experience. matthew had to get some deer and hares as they were eating all of the farms turnips. i was incharge of the flash light while he drove his big truck one handed (the gun in his other hand) the chase was quite exciting, but when he actually shot the animals it wasnt that great. im still not sure what my opinion is on hunting, there are fors and againsts. in the end we got 2 deer, 2 hares and a possum. let me tell you the smell of deer blood is not nice at all.
so this last week ive been working for free just doing the usual stuff, i went shopping for the first time since i arrived at the farm and bought food for the week so the family wouldnt have to feed me. as our last night there we caught 3 horses and went riding. i would pay good money to go riding in such scenery, especially at sunset! i stayed at a walk because id just bounce all over the place if it went any faster hehe.
yesterday didnt go to plan at all. got up mega early to go for a walk right down the valley and to help shift some sheep. if was soo foggy we wernt sure if we would be able to see where we were. it lifted slightly so we decided to go for it. me and joel went up and over this hill while the shepherd went around with his dogs. as we watched from the top we just saw matthew walking away from the sheep as though he'd given up confused we headed back to the truck. one of his dogs had broken its leg . we rushed back to the house and then had to rush to the vet, as it takes so long to get anywhere we had to get a lift to christchurch straight after the vets so that meant packing up all of our things before we left for the vets. i didnt get to say goodbye to any of the family as they were at the schools watersports day. gutted i couldnt say goodbye, ill really miss them all. stayed with the same family in chch last night, said goodbye to the shepherd and bobs your uncle im in queenstown meeting simmons and co.
