Today started off great! We had a complementary breakfast, checked out of our hostel then guess who we randomly met on the streets of Kuala Lumpur... We heard a Swedish voice say "Hallå", and thought, "how can that person know we're from Sweden??". We turned around and poof! our room mate Gunnar from the train from Ulaanbataar to Beijing came walking towards us and waving. What are the odds?! In a city of 2.6m inhabitants, our paths crossed. The other guy Jockes facial expression when he saw Gunnar talking to us was very funny. Surrealistic!
We were on our way to the station to drop of our bags in a storage locker, then off to Batu Caves! We took the local bus out, and got some helpful directions on the way. We were pretty hungry so we decided to try a nearby restaurant. What we didn't know Is that we'd be eating that much food!! The food in the picture was just the start of it. The food was really nice though, Indian vegetarian food, yum! Because we were so full, we didn't want to take on the 200something staircase leading up to the caves and the temple, so we had a look at some Hindu statues, a reptile farm, monkeys (caged, and free) peacocks, foot skin eating fish an lots of other fish. Then after about and hour we headed up the stairs to the caves. Again our morning showers were rendered useless, and frankly the temple at the top wasn't worth the sweat and stairs used to get there. The caves were pretty cool, but not greatly impressive.
Our return to the city was just as easy as leaving, we hopped on a bus that took us back to central market. Yesterday a woman tipped us on a shopping area that we wanted to check out. It's really easy to get around KL, just got on the monorail (accidentally went the wrong way first and Krista nearly got trapped in the door) and got off at Bukit Bintag. Loads of shopping centres everywhere, we got soaked today as well, but we just bought an umbrella! The people of Malaysia are in the Christmas spirit, in one mall the decorations were crazy! About 10 giant Xmas trees, giant baubles and a massive (fake) cake. Insane but pretty.
Had a nice meal (Emelie's best in Malaysia) at U cafe, then returned to KL Sentral to wait for our train to Johor!
