Not a great train ride, didn't get a lot of sleep, but this time we'd prepared for the cold and put layers on. We had a look around the station for some info on how to get to piai national park, found a map of Johor, but not much else. By this time we were pretty hungry, so we went on the hunt for some breakfast. Apparently they just eat normal food for breakfast here so it was fried rice and noodles with fresh orange juice. We came to realise that the easiest way to get to our destination would be to take a taxi. We asked one guy who said 180Ringit, thought that was a bit much so we asked in the station. A Malaysian man thought it would cost about 50, so we asked a different taxi driver, he said 100 we said fine. 100RM=200SEK. The trip was about 90km, so it took a while to get to the park.
The sum was shining and everything and everybody was nice. We paid our entrance fee, found a home stay and had a look around the park, took it easy and chatted. Everything was peaceful until...
Operation Monkey!!!
Emelie needed the loo, so we headed for the toilets, when we got over the bridge, 3 frightened faces peeped out from behind the door. The girls were scared of something, but what? Them bam!! Behind us were a hundred monkeys snarling and thirsty for blood! We sheltered the girls and snarled back, helping them cross the bridge to safety. Emelie stopped halfway cause she really needed the toilet, but Krista kept on battling the army of monkeys! The girls were finally safe, but Krista had to cross again to the toilets, wham! Bang! Kzzaa! She ran across, received a few battle scars, and shut the door, monkeys screaming and banging outside. We both kept lookout while the other one relived themselves. Tourists Vs. Monkeys 0-1
Operation Escape!!
The monkeys were closing in hard and fast. We had nowhere to go. To survive we had to come up with a plan! Cookie grenades!! We charged out from the restroom. Guns and grenades ablazing. Wham, Emelie does the crane, 5 monkeys down! Crouching tiger by Krista next, 3 more down!! Finally we get to the end of the bridge, blocked only by one ginormous monkey. We put on our sunglasses and said "let's do this, Monkey!" Aaaarrrggghh!! Then everything went black... We woke up at the en of the bridge monkey free an safe, we survived!!! Tourists Vs. Monkeys 1-1
Ok, you may not believe this is a true story but it is! We only changed a few minor things like, there were only about 5 monkeys total. They didn't actually attack us (though Krista has been psychologically damaged) they just snarled at us and chased Krista. We did feel trapped in the toilet, but we chucked cookie bits at them then ran for it while they were distracted. Yeah pretty much the same story.
After the epic monkey battle we thought we might get something to eat, but It started raining again (the story of our lives) so we sat under a party tent waiting it out. The three girls we saved from the monkeys came over and had bought us coconut drinks as thanks, our first ones in plastic bags! Very nice of them :)
We bought some fruit but were still hungry, on the search for a food stall, the nice girl from the reception gave us two left over lunch boxes with Japanese food! That's karma for you. After a tasty lunch we played cards, then our home stay host wanted to leave, which we had no problems with.
Our hosts name was Wati, a mother of 3 who worked a stall and as a wedding planner. Her Malaysian house was very cosy and warm in colour. Wati told us that it was a school holiday in Malaysia, and that they have many weddings during that time. She wanted us to see a Malaysian wedding, so we drove to a strangers wedding, got lots of free food (special rice and beef stew, delicious!) that we had to eat with our right hand, listened to Malaysian music and got photographed with the couples (2 couples were getting married). Everyone was very friendly, they thought Emelie's hair was beautiful!
The next stop was a fish sausage factory, even more food! The sausage tasted faintly of fish and mostly of dough and were eaten with chilli sauce. We also got a fresh coconut each to drink from.
We then returned home for a quiet night in. Well needed sleep!
