Arrived at Interlaken about mid day, there isn't a hostel in Interlaken that is approved by YHA, so we ended up staying in one that was advetised in our guide book called Balmers. This is a typical American summer camp place when we arrived it was full of americans and we really weren't too sure at first that we were going to like it. Had a bit of lunch and went for a wander round town. The town is not very exciting as every other shop either sells watches, knives or Adventure sports (its Europes Adventure sport capital). Anyway checked in and met two australian guys in our room they were pretty cool, one was from Cairns and the other from Melbourne but worked in Wimbledon. Ended up in the bar for happy hour with them and had a phat burger, was jus general chit chat and getting to know them and where they were going.
Monday: Breakfast was not very generous and you could either have muesli and fruit or a few bits of toast.
We got the train to a neighbouring town Spiez to look at one of the lakes either side of Interlaken. There were amazing views a thwe lake is fantastic. Just was chilling out round there and then made our way to Thun. Grabbed bit of lunch and wandered round for a bit. Saw one of my cars too was well impressed. Went for a drinkwith Tim as it was his last night in town. Went to local hotel/bar - they had a wicked dog - weighed 80kg!!! It was a St Bernard.
Tuesday we went to the east station with Michelle (she came to meet us at hostel) and we went to walk round the other lake. Not as big as the first but impressive all the same. Bumped into another Aussie by it, was born here but now lives in Brisbane. We sat and watched The Fantastic 4 and Snatch with Andy and a bunch of Canadians tonight, was really nice to just do nothing. Also cooked our own food - big bowl of pasta with tuna and tomato sauce!!
Wednesday we had a chilled morning and wandered round Interlaken with Michelle. Ended up in Hooters (so American here, but we were intrigued) and had a drink in there. We bought T-shirts and Dan had his pic taken hehehe!! Went for a walk and found a small fountain thing that was frozen, so decided to play in the ice. It was so thick, about 10mm at least in the middle. Got a bit hungry so went back to Hooters for some food, just had nacho's and some chips. Michelle then left us for Grindelwald and we hired some mountain bikes and went back to the first lake and cycled through a nature reserve. We had what set out to be an omlette for dinner tonight but the pan kept sticking so it was more like scrambled egg with onion, courgette, potato and cheese!!! Tasted good though and filled a hole. Went to happy hour and got quite tiddly as it was so cheap - we have turned into real lightweights!
