Today was stressful!! We have left Strasbourg and arrived in Bern - eventually. Our train had a change in Offenburg. We had an hour wait between them, and a 15 minute delay on top of that. Halfway through the two hour journey the train stopped on the tracks and a man came over the tannoy saying there was a 'technical fault' and we would stop again at the next station where they would try to fix it.
In the meantime, an extremely annoying Asian girl has gotten on to the train with about 5 massive bags and suitcases which were blocking the aisle and causing MAYHEM!!!!!!!! We were sat there for about half an hour and then we were told that there was another train leaving in 5 minutes from that station but on another platform. We grabbed the rucksacks and carried them as we ran to the platform at the other end of this massive station.
We got into the train all sweaty and hot and just in the nick of time. We'd just settled down into our seats and got our breath back when we heard loud struggling coming up the aisle. It couldn't be true, that damn Asian girl had come back with a vengeance. She didn't even bother to put her suitcases in the rack above the seats and was happy to take her stinky shoes off and rest her feet on the suitcase blocking the aisle for EVERYONE!!!!! I was NOT amused.
So that was a longer journey than anticipated. Imagine our surprise when we got to Switzerland to discover an unknown phenomenon called 'the Swiss franc'. No wonder Switzerland is neutral. We got to our hotel and there was an old lift that you pulled a door open for and then got into it. Our room had two single beds along one wall back to back, and was right on the top floor. It was like a tiny attic room and that we were roommates in a dorm. It was so hot and because of the heatwave there was no ventilation!
Everything was a FORTUNE!!! We looked for ages for a restaurant to eat in but just a main course was 40CHF. We went to McDonald's and both had a medium meal and an ice cream, and that came to 38CHF!!! It's £10 in England! And it was really salty so we didn't even finish it. We'd gone all day with only a belvita biscuit so we were starving hungry. All of the shops were closed because it was getting late and we couldn't buy anything. We went to bed upset and hungry.
