We've had a busy week! It's been great! We've both picked our projects, but we'll each tell you more about them in a different blog post!
Shortly after we arrived at camp we had a really nice evening where all the volunteers had dinner together, sat outside! The food was all cooked outside as well and we got to help our friends Mohan & Baghi (who work at the camp) make the Naan breads! Vicky was cheif butterer and cutter in halfer! They were really yummy too!
Vicky went to Anjuna market with some of the other girls on Wednesday which was really good, it was about an hours drive in a taxi and well worth it! It was HUGE! so much jewlery everywhere, lots of really cool clothes and it was all so cheap! Of course had to barter, aparently you should only pay 1/3 of their first price so its good fun trying to haggle them down!
Often we all go to the beach in the afternoons after our volunteer projects. Majorda beach is a half hour walk away and is really beautiful. Its quite quiet with perfect white sand and blue (warm) sea, so we chill out there for a bit and then walk up the beach to Kolva beach. Theres a bit more going on there, more markets, bars, resturants and then the Idex staff do a free pick ups from there which take us back to camp! Its really cool like we have our own chauffers who drive us around in these big white jeep things, they take us to all the schools, day care centres, beaches etc...
In the evenings we either chill out at camp, sometimes watching bollywood films (we strongly reccomend watching om shanti om!!!!!! amazing film) and sometimes we'll go out to Boomerang, a club on Kolva beach wich is really fun! A particularly funny evening was wehn Ellie locked me in our room for ages!!!!! Totally by accident of course, the doors dont stay closed unless you lovk them, and ellie was very paranoid about an insect infestation on the room (after being evactuated from our first room due to fleas) and so locked the door without thinking and forgot that vicky wouldnt be able to get out. 40 minutes later she was finaly rescued by Mohn and Baghi when they saw her hand sticking out of the mosquito shutter-a very funny sight!
For the weekend we went to Palolem, which is south of where we are now. We stayed in Beach shacks (or coco huts) which were an amazing 3.00 for 2 nights thanks o vicky's excellent bartering skills! Palolem is amazing, it felt like we were on a mini holiday as we went on friday lunchtime and came back late sunday. We got to eat English food all weekend which was great after two weeks of curry. We both consumed many eggs between us as had been having withdrawal symptoms. We spent the day time in the markets and we went on a walk to this island which you can only reach at low tide. The beach was lovely, apparantly the third must see place in India. In the evenings we went to 24 hour bars which are really fun, we met some funny characters....the Indian men love a good dance off! We managed to get a lot of free Fenny and had general great times!!!!
