Today marked the end of our own travels. We flew from Maputo to Johanessburg then up to Nairobi where we met our tour group. The tour Ella and I had chosen was 23 days long but there was plenty of other options. The ten others we met were our tour buddies for the next 14 days, four more joined for the gorilla section of the tour. Back in Nairobi after 14 days some left the tour and others joined. Our initial group of twelve had ten girls and two guys both travelling with a girlfriend.

Our first day on the ATC truck was a long driving day to Masaai Mara with a stop at the Great Rift Valley lookout. Ella and I didn't spend any of the trip arguing as the travel journal title may suggest. It is in fact a reference to the Great Rift Valley which runs from Northern Syria to Central Mozambique. The Great Rift Valley is made up of different but related fault and rift systems. Our tour took us through most of the Eastern Africa Rift and over the Western Africa rift where the mountain Gorillas live.
The long day in the truck was mostly due to the terrible road conditions in the Maasai Mara. Once settled we fell asleep to the sounds of a Hyena stalking around the campsite.
