This morning I wandered down to KL Central to buy a ticket for a train to Butterworth (doesn’t sound very Malaysian does it). The railway system is very efficient, I am not, after 3 different attempts I finally found the correct ticket booth. Ticket bought and with 2 hours to spare, I went into the Mall linked to the station - found a coffee shop and enjoyed the next hour and half people watching. Luckily I gave myself half and hour to get to the platform as it had disappeared- I mean the station had. The mall was 7 floors of shops that all look alike and I could not find the exact exit that I needed. Finally I found not only the station but the platform as well. I was then placed in a waiting area from which we were boarded. The train was like everything else I have seen in Malaysia - efficient, roomy and spotless.
Finding the ferry was easy in comparison. I bought the ticket (20p) and found myself on a highly decorated ferry that had cars downstairs and people upstairs- although there was obviously space for extra cars if needed on the passenger level.
Georgetown is my type of city. I actually feel back in SE Asia - my coffee cost more than my dinner and I ate my dinner on a plastic seat with my knees under my chin!!

Jan Butterworth and Georgetown! Are you sure it is Malaysia?
