From Luang Prabang we headed to Phonsavanh to see the strange historic sight of The Plain of Jars - huge sandstone boulders tunneled out into jar/urn shapes, which there are photos of on here. There is no explanation for why the huge stone jars are scattered all around the town - some people think they were for collecting water and some think they were funery urns. We were only allowed to visit 3 sites though as all the others haven't been cleared of mines and cluster bombs.
Phonsavanh was a funny place, not much going on at all and we only spent 1 day to see the jars then left. All around the town were girls dressed in funky colour dresses with coins attached playing a game of throw and catch with various different boys! Apparently this is for the Hmong new year celebrations and the game is for the boys to win the girls.
Our last couple of days in Luang Prabang were good fun - we met another wicked bunch of people who we now keep bumbing into.
We are now in Vientiane, which is the most chilled capital we've ever been to. We have spent a couple of days sightseeing around the city and chilling with a few of the dudes we've met! The other night we randomly ended up partying Laos style for a Dutch girls birthday - we went to a Laos club with all the locals who particularly liked our crazy dancing.
This morning Chelsea, Samie (an Irish girl we met in LP) and myself went to see a women's vocational training centre. It was brilliant - we got to dye our own Lao Silk scarfs with dyes made from completely natural materials. My pink dye was made from an insects lack (yuck) and fruits, which then you have to boil with the material in. The centre does really good work all around Laos - training women everywhere (from hilltribes and locals, they even run disabled courses) so they can learn skills of weaving and dying with natural materials to use them for making money or even just to help their communities.
