Our second day in Luang Prabang and we have spent it seeing the remainding Wats that we missed yesterday and climbing Phu Si hill to overlook the town (amazing that you can barely see the houses and buildings for all the surrounding greenery and forest - contrast to Thailand).

We travelled down the Mekong river via slow boat from Chiang Khong and spent a night in Pak Beng, which was a strange introduction to Laos. Then spent another butt numbing day on the slow boat (about 6 hours each day) to Luang Prabang. The views down the Mekong were fantastic and well worth the crazy boats we were riding in, as was the experience of riding with the locals - one lady was carrying puppies in a bag! Unloading everyone's luggage was hilarious! I'm surprised not more than one person fell in with their bags (even more surprised that that one person wasn't me). Before we had set off in the boat on the first day a couple's chair collapsed whilst they were sitting on it and some Lao man had to come hammer it into place again.

Luang Prabang is excellent, we are loving the chilled atmosphere great food (river moss with some funky spicy jelly stuff) and friendly locals. The town isn't massive but being a UNESCO world heritage site has ensured that it is keeping it's character despite tourism. Although everything seems to shut down pretty early and we have an 11.00pm curfew at the guest house! That's going to prove difficult this evening as we're meeting up with Vernon and Chelsea again for dinner, and you know how Canadians like to drink!!
