Arrived in Rottenest after an early rise to catch the ferry from Freemantle. The island itself was beautiful- full of deserted beaches, corals perfect for snorkelling, loads of wildlife and because there are no cars, no pollution at all.

We hired bikes while we were there which gave us easy access around the island. We just cycled around the island taking in the views and finding deserted beaches to chill out on and snorkel. Managed to see quite a few tropical fish by keeping near to the bay.

The island full of volunteer guides who were dotted around to chat about the island. Never before have I met such enthusiastic people who were willing to give impromptu individual tours and it made seeing the island quickly very easy.

The island also is full of Quokkas which are like a cross between a rat and a kangaroo and they were literally everywhere jumping around with all their little joeys. Managed to see a tiny Joey in its mum's pouch but couldn’t get a picture of it before it bounced off. (Note to Si- you may want to take a deep breath now while reading this with all the mention of Joey’s... just in case you get irate!). We also saw our first lizards since being in Australia and even our first snake!

Rottnest also saw the first ever Anglo-Asian Crazy Golf Championship. I'm delighted to report that it went to the Anglo's after a 5 shot victory- it was very close for a while and I'm sure Chris will be keen to make amends on the next leg!

Unfortunately we had our first mishap of the trip when Chris lost his camera on route to a lighthouse. Many hours of searching and flying around the island retracing our steps came to no avail. Luckily for us someone handed it in- so it’s very lucky that some of this pictures made it onto the site!

At night the island goes to sleep and there is little to do other than watch the sunset and the sky light up with millions of stars. It was a really nice place just to chill out for a bit.
