Today I woke up feeling a little more worse for ware. Antibiotics for me too it would seem. We creamed up, bug sprayed and went for a swim.
After being in the water for over half an hour, Edd swam out to the buoy and I waded my way back to shore, taking a fresh water shower under the tree. We'd left all our valuables upstairs in the room, so went to fetch my iPad and our phones and then resumed position on a lounger.
We were pretty hungry when Edd finally made his way back from his little rendezvous, so had a fresh water shower and then went and ordered 2 toasties from the bar. (They'd restocked their reserves and could actually offer food now). 40 minutes later we still didn't have any food and Edd was getting cranky; he elected me to go and find out what the hold up was and I returned shocked and dumb struck. I'd asked the guy behind the bar (who was a local) if they'd had an order for 2 toasted sandwiches and he said yes, they're still coming. One of the guys behind him (the chef - one of the owners) came out and overheard. Apparently I had to be patient, there are no McDonalds in Cambodia. I returned to Edd a bit unsure as to what McDonalds had to do with anything, other than the fact that if you waited 40 minutes for food, you got it for free. My usual quick wit had failed me. My only excuse was that he had caught me off guard and I had not expected a snarky answer to a simple question. If you're going to need to churn the cheese before you made a sandwich, you just need to warn a person. I should have told him to invest in making sandwiches as quickly as he rolled joints on teacup saucers. Alas.
Moving on from the less than savoury's attitude towards customer service, we enjoyed our sandwiches 10 minutes later (50 minutes to make 2 simple toasted sandwiches, seriously). Edd was a happier bunny and we soaked up the sunshine, this being our second last day (but last night) at the bungalows.
We swam for a long time and had to hold our costumes up every time we stood up: we'd both lost so much more weight in the last month (since buying new trunks in Chiang Mai) that Edd could take his trunks off without untying them and my bikini top and bottom kept heading south, at will. We were going to have to get new ones (again) in Bangkok (in the market - cheaper) and keep these ones for when we put on a few kilos again. The stomach issues did not help the situation either, and it wasn't like we weren't eating. I was having a discussion with a friend over WhatsApp a few days earlier, she asked me how we could possibly keep losing weight, considering the fact that we ate a high carb diet of rice and noodles (often 3 times a day). I thought about it and then used Hoi An as a good example: Thien Tan Homestay - 3km cycle in the morning into the city to do a suit / dress fitting. 3km back to Thien Tan to fetch beach stuff. 3km to the beach in the opposite direction, then 3km back that evening. Shower, freshen up. 3km back to the city to do another fitting and have dinner. Then another 3km back to go to bed. That's an 18km bike ride in 1 day, just to get around! Our butts were sore, but our bodies were starting to look skeletal.
We both decided the sun was exceptionally hot at this point and he went inside to play pool, I stayed outside and read my book some more, but followed him in half an hour later: the local girl (that pulls off a killer Scottish accent) and her brother came to say hi. She asked me if we were leaving the next day, which I confirmed; we'd promised them for over a week that we'd buy something from them before we left and she informed me that because they'd had a 4 day weekend, she'd be at school all of the next day, so wouldn't be on the beach to see us. (They do 3 hours in the morning, go home at 11am, then go back to school after 3pm until 5pm. Sometimes the teachers changed it and they have school the whole day). She called me the boss and told me to go fetch my bank. (Smart kid!) I went and fetched Edd and we ended up buying a bracelet for him and a headband for me. I'd been eyeing out their dangly shrimps and fish, but in the end decided on a more practical purchase.
We then went in search of lunch, looking in particular for a McDonalds. (Laugh out loud). We settled for the overpriced pizza a few restaurants down, but were then informed they only served pizza after 3pm. It was 2.10pm, so not much of a wait, but we were both ravenously hungry, so decided to go back to the Italian, next door to the bungalows, and have a pizza there. Which we promptly did.
Lazy as all hell, we made our way back to our room to chill out for a while. I then Whasapp called my folks in England and Edd got on the phone to his friend that would be joining us at the end of the week. He then went to play pool and left me upstairs to tweak our blog.
Glen deposited another present for us that landed perfectly between my legs. I got up and grabbed a bit of toilet paper to pick it up, then deciding to take a shower, so grabbed my stuff and headed downstairs, passing the bar area where Edd was playing pool and got into the furthest shower. I wasn't there long, but had just finished washing my hair when I heard Edd calling for me. He called me Lauren, which he only did when situations were serious or he was cross with me, and sounded frantic. I called back and opened the door slightly; he came in and cursed me for not telling him I was going to shower. Apparently he'd gone back upstairs, the light was off and I was nowhere to be found. He then went to the 2 restaurants on either side of our bungalows looking for me (cos that's logical) and then paced up and down the beach, convinced I'd been abducted: my mother's parting words to him were to look after me on our travels; he was a walking dead man. I thought the entire episode was hysterical and he sat on the toilet to collect his thoughts and let his racing heart calm down. Surely the bathroom would be the first place to look? Clearly not.
We went to the Italian next door as our bungalows weren't serving food. (It was more surprising when food was available, than when it was not). We ordered a lasagne each and Edd transferred his black olives onto my plate when our food arrived. In the end, he finished nearly half of my lasagne as well: it was simply too much food.
We went back to our room and got into bed; Edd elected to refrain from using the bug net as it stopped a lot of the air the fan created from reaching us. I reapplied spray instead and climbed in. I'd like to say we went to sleep quickly, but the music was blaring outside and it was rap crap. Not exactly Enya and far from relaxing; this was our last night, however, and although we'd had a really good time, we were looking forward to a bit of quiet.
