The morning started with a few toilet runs. The day was met with 1 x grumpy Ted and 1 x semi-okay Lauren. I was coming back from the bathroom, when I realised they had boxing on the screen - I enquired as to whether or not it was the historical match everyone was waiting in great anticipation for. It was confirmed and I went and fetched Edd; he promptly got dressed and left me in our room to watch the prematch fights. I got dressed, grabbed the laptop and made myself comfortable at one of the tables behind him: he was sitting on a bar stool at the end of the bar, next to the Californian guy. They were being boys and I stayed well away from their immediate proximity. I'd gone to the local store to get a sim card for Edd, so a bank in Australia could call him, but I came back empty handed: the only store that sold them was in the middle of their prayers, they were chanting with monks in bright orange and were not trading at that precise moment in time.
To top it all off, the wrong guy won. Everyone was sad. I'd finished blogging, so we laid our towels out on the sun loungers and mentally mapped out the quickest route to the bathroom, just in case. We then creamed up, bug sprayed and got comfy.
It turned out to be a scorching day and we went for a swim, just to cool off. You had to wade pretty far out to find the pockets of cold water, otherwise you might as well be swimming in an oversized bath tub. It didn't help that it was going on full moon, so the first 15 metres were only ankle deep anyway and it was hot, borderline scolding, shallow water. I am not particularly keen on going too far out, having been pulled out by a rip tide back home only a year earlier, and being yanked back to shore through a bank of seaweed, by a friend's boyfriend. Besides that, there are things in the sea. Live things. I spent most of my time clutched to Edd and balancing myself on his feet, so that I did not have to touch the icky things that lay on the sea bed (mostly plastic). We then experienced breaching fish, wish is a pretty cool thing to see and it doesn't happen that often. The reason is, they breach because something is chasing them and they jump out of the water to escape. We'd seen this in Halong Bay when we were kayaking, but this time we were in the sea with them and they all flew (literally) passed us, 2 of them breaking off from the shoal and missing Edd by mere single-digit centimetres! My first question: what the hell is chasing them.
I got out the water and left my water baby to figure it out. There were locals everywhere, enjoying the glorious day with us. It was a bit strange to watch them in the sea though, as they all did it fully clothed. Seriously. Adults and children were swimming in their jeans, shirts or dresses, only the toddlers were a bit more sensible, running around completely starkers.
We then had an afternoon nap (well, Edd napped, I sat and read my book). We then decided to have an Italian for dinner and got ready for a delicious meal of pasta. We decided to splash out and order a bottle of wine (they were really well priced). Edd ordered a bottle of red Italian deliciousness and we sat and drank that while he ate a lasagne, I ordered a dish of penne pasta in cream sauce, with peas and bacon. (Not a carbonara, but quite similar). We then ordered gelato (one scoop of mango and one scoop of lime) it was just like it tasted when I was in Italy the year before and was a fantastic way to end a meal. We paid and took our glasses of wine down to their sun loungers (granted, there was no sun). Someone had moved a lounger right to the bottom of the beach, so the waves barely lapped at the foot end. We finished our wine, looking at the sea and Edd edcated me on the ways of Maritime travel. Or should I say, he was pointing out why what we were looking at made no sense and was not according to international laws. Duly educated.
We sat for a bit in the bar area, chatting to some of the people we'd become friendly with. I then went upstairs, sorted our room out and then called for Edd to come and climb in. After consulting with his mother, he was fed 2 antibiotics to help with the issues; he then went to bed lying upside down, so his head was right by the fan: he was feeling exceptionally hot (didn't have a fever though) and wanted as much fan relief as possible.
