Another late morning. Tick. Edd decided we should have breakfast before we left, so I ordered a Nutella pancake and he ordered an omlette. He went to our new accommodation to check if we could check in early and came back with the good news.
We gobbled down breakfast, packed up our stuff and went to pay at the bar. They didn't take cards and told us to go to the ATM and draw money there instead, you could apparently draw US dollars and Riel there, which was perfect (and very handy).
We came back with the money and the guy behind the bar said, 'oh, it's actually working.' We had no words to reply to his statement and stared at him dumbstruck, instead. He'd recommended we go draw money at an ATM that usually didn't work. The lack of logic involved in this was beyond our comprehension. We paid, said goodbye to the Swiss girl (who was flying to Siem Reap that afternoon) and left.
We made our way down the beach to our new accommodation, The Seagarden, and checked in. It was the only accommodation along the beach with hot water and held the reputation for having the cleanest bathrooms along the strip. The last place we were in didn't even have a light over the toilets, so just a roll of mere toilet paper was a vast improvement. I'd read Tripadvisor reviews to see why it hadn't come up on our search and could not figure it out. I had read a few reviews that 'complained' about the bathrooms, from people that were apparently from parts of the world where English is the native language, but the reviews were clearly Google - translated. That's one of the problems with Tripadvisor, you don't need to provide proof that you've actually been to the place you're reviewing, so competitors can make up fake profiles and slate their competition. Unfortunately they usually don't speak English as a first language and you can pick it up immediately that there's something fishy going on.
We got our towels out and set up on sun loungers for another hard day of tanning. I blogged for most of the afternoon, as I was quite behind and needed to do serious amounts of catching up. We had people continuously hassle us for boat trips to the island, massages, sunglasses and threading. I had a number of local women tell me that my legs were very hairy and I needed them to thread the hairs out. I've had my eyebrows threaded before and it was the most painful thing I've ever experienced; unless they had a pot of hot wax hiding in their baskets, I wasn't interested.
We spent the day tanning, swimming and then taking some more. At 6pm we decided it was time to shower and get ready for dinner. We'd met a German couple who were travelling for 8 months, having started in South Africa, and were going to join them after dinner for a few drinks and a story swap.
We deicded to go next door and have BBQ: I ordered the seafood option and Edd had chicken. The squid was like a well-seasoned tyre; the rest of the food however, was delicious and far too much. We ate ourselves into a semi coma and then hopped back over to our accommodation to join the German couple for drinks.
We sat and chatted until after 11pm and then decided it was probably a good idea to go to bed. We went up to our room, tucked the mosquito net under the mattress and got in. We had a fan aimed at our feet to keep us cool and had the windows open for fresh sea air. This was definitely the life.
