dzasta travels
The second day we decided to hire motor bikes and go for a lap of the island to do some sight seeing. I had to leave my passport as security and I was a bit suss about that but it all worked out in the end. the island is very hilly so we were riding over some very steep and windey roads. the very steep ones were a but full on when you are going down but OK going up. Daz spent most of the day with one indicator on. Most times I didn't know we were going to turn until I saw him turn. we arrived at Ramai Beech for lunch. It is a fishing village and you pick your seafood fresh from the fishermen and take it over the road and they cook it for you. it is a pretty good system. After lunch Boom (Daz's girlfriend) was feeling sick so we found a pharmacy got her some medication and headed back to the hotel. We decided it was late enough so returned the bikes.
Boom lay down for a while so Daz and I went out shopping. I needed to get some new shorts. we walked around for a while bartering with the stallholders and were getting close to the real price when we found a place right on the beach that was dirt cheap. I bought 2 pair of shorts and we headed back to check on Boom. She was still feeling sick so we headed out for dinner. During the afternoon we had come across a pub that said they had a FREE BBQ tonight so we headed there. Sure enough they did have free BBQ and it was very good and the beer was cheap as well. We are going back there again tomorrow for the same again.
Inevitably we ended up on Bangala Rd again and the old ladyboy immediately recognized me and hit me up for a drink. Beer for me is 120 baht but lady drink is 220 baht and that is how they make their money, and other things. I declined the drink and we moved on. We didn't stay long cos Daz had to get back to check on Boom, who was by now feeling a little better. We ended the night having a few beers at the bar in the hotel and watching the traffic go by.
For Daz's birthday I shouted him to golf. We played 9 holes to Punaka Golf Club. Nine holes was just enough. Neither of us played very well but our caddies kept encouraging us. They were a couple of really nice ladies and we laughed and joked with them all game. We only bought 6 balls between us and there is thick rough on every hole and water on 5 holes. We ran out of balls on about the 5th hole so the caddy had to phone the clubhouse for another packet of balls and bring some more beer as well. we didn't need to know the score it was a lot of fun.
This afternoon we hired the bikes again and went to the firing range so Daz and the girls could fire off a couple of shots. This time I had Boom's sister on the bike with me and we had a couple of hairy moments when the busses tried to pass us on the bends on the hills. Fun (sister) panicked a couple of times but we made it OK. Of course we had to stop at the pub on the way home.
Tonite we went to Banzan markets for dinner and I think and earlyish night probably. I had prawns, pineapple and bugs. I don't know what type of bugs but I had 3 different ones and they were tasty. One was grass hoppers but I don't know what the others were.
