dzasta travels
What a day.
My spanish was right and the ferry was this morning. I was there at 8 to get ticket and they sent me straight out to the boat. By 8.30 I was still the only one. Then a few more arrived and byt 9.10 there was 6 of us on that huge ferry. At 9.30 the captain arrived with a couple of cops and they all went into the bridge for a while, then the cops got off the boat and we left. That ferry to do 68km with just 6 backpackers on it? We had paid 200 cordobas ( about $7).
We arrived at Altagarcia on Omtepe Island. I went to the harbour ticket office to find out when the ferry goes to San Carlos? Apparently it is suspended for now cos the water level is too low, so I can't go that way and will have to go back to the mainland and take busses. A taxi wanted $20 to take me to Moyogalpa, on the other side of the island so I told him to shove it. I started walking and another taxi offered me $1 to Altagracia bus station. I accepted this one and eventually caught the bus for 60 cents. The bus stopped at the port on the other side of the island and turned off the engine. Everyone started getting off? They were all getting ferry tickets so I did the same. I am not sure where we are going but I suspect San Jorge? We will see?
Just my luck the port doesn't have a sign but I carried on as if it was San Jorge. A taxi wanted 60 cordobas to take me to Rivas, so I knew I was in San Jorge. I took up his offer and he found me a nice hotel here in Rivas. So that is how I got here.
I am staying here 2 nights cos I got in late and need the day tomorrow to look at transport options. I still want to go to San Carlos if I can, but if I can't I can cross the border near here and head south on the other side of the border.
I think I have sorted the next few weeks. It might be a bit challenging but I have a couple of days up my sleeve so I am going to have a go. I am trying to go down the caribe side of Costa Rica.
Tomorrow take chicken bus to border, walk across, then chicken bus to Liberia.
2 nights Liberia
2 chicken bus to Santa Elena for 2 nights
Jeep, boat, jeep to La Fortuna
5 chicken bus ans boat to Tortuguero for 3 nights. If I make connections all good if not a night in Cariari.
Water taxi to Moin
Shuttle to Cahita for 2 nights
Water shuttle to cross the border to Bocas Del Toro.
Then work out to Panama City but I have heaps of time to get there.

john Skelton In a few days I can take a $50 shuttle or 5 chicken busses for $14. Guess which one I am taking?
Ngaere After reading your next plans of travel and mapping it out, Lance says you have not used a donkey for transport yet. What is the problem?
john Skelton Ngaere, the leg where I go jeep boat jeep I can do the first part of that on a horse but it is way too expensive
Ngaere Not good to waste your money. I will let Lance know that you at least accessed information on four legged travel. I am enjoying reading your news and looking at Google to see exactly where you are. Stay safe.
