dzasta travels
I took the easy option to get here, took the shuttle. It was good for a change. There were only 6 of us so plenty of room. We dropped off a couple of girls I met yesterday in Managua on the way. Granada is a colonial town, like Leon and Antigua in Guatamala. It is full of old buildings and street scapes. I am here for a couple of days.
The hotel is nice. The room a bit small but ok. It is a little strange to get in cos you have to walk through the family restaurant and kitchen to get to your room? But it is only $15/ night.
Today I had to sit in my room for a few hours cos it was ******* down. I have been lucky with the weather so far. Since the hurricane in Belize I can't remember being held up by the rain? I have had a lot of rain but not heavy when I am out, not held me up and mostly at night. So today I watched the wrestling, baseball and US open.
There is an Irish pub up the street from where I am staying. It seems to be the busiest place in the street. I refused to go in there. I did not come to Nicaragua to eat in an Irish pub, so I went to the Italian place instead. The last couple of days I had Subway in Leon, trying to get some veges into me. Every meal locally comes with tortillas and rice and beens. It is filling but there isn't much in it really so I going to try to get some fruit and veges into me here before I get scurvy.
This morning I was up early and booked some flights to get home. Then I went for a walk around town to see some of the sights. Most of the churches were closed so i couldn't get in. While I was walking I saw a funeral. It was a black horse drawn carriage and looked like a gang funeral cos there were definitely two groups following with the second one acting like it was a party. A ute full of cops was following them all.
Who put the mockers on me this morning asking about the weather? This arvo I was booked on an island tour from 2 til 5. As soon as we got in the van to drive to the dock it started ******* rain. At the dock we sat in the van waiting for it to ease but it didn't. By 3 we decided to call it off and head back to town. I have been offered another chance tomorrow if that doesn't work I get my money back. I'm starting to reconsider my next movements. They are supposed to be on ferries and the water looks very rough. I think I might try to work out getting around the lake instead of across it?
Anither day another volcano. Today it is Mombacho. It dominates the town but I can't get a pic cos it is covered in cloud. Today I did a canopy tour. Really it is zip lining and they point out a couple of birds and bugs. It was another great morning.
This arvo I did a tour on the lake. Lake Nicaragua is the biggest lake in Central America and just near here is an archipelago they say has 365 islands. They say a tour you going to see heaps of birds, monkeys and maybe crocodiles? Well that is ********. They take you around islands that are privately owned. Most by mega millionaires. Having said that they are not that expensive, there is one for sale with pretty good house for 1/2 mil. Well they don't get crocks in this part of the lake and birds don't like people so we were never going to see too many. Why lie? It was an OK tour, just not what was advertised. One stop is at a small island where there are 5 monkeys and every boat stops there to feed them. We stopped and one of the monkeys jumped out of a tree right into our boat, right on me. Fair dinkum I **** myself. He rifled a couple of bags then go off again. I met a couple of Aussie guys and we might meet up again in Cahita in a few weeks. All in all it was an OK arvo with not too much rain.
I bought a new T shirt. I think I am going to make orange THE colour this season.
Tomorrow I am on the ferry to Ometepe and will do some home work on the boat to work out the next couple of weeks cos there is stuff I wanna do so gotta make time and still make flights. I went to the harbour yesterday to organise this and I am confident enough with my Spanish now I think she was telling me " not tomorrow, the next day at 9am, come an hour early to book and it will cost 200 cordobas. If I got that wrong I will be on the bus in the arvo to San Jorge?

Ngaere Is the rain part of the normal weather system and you expected it, or is it out of what you thought you would get?
Ngaere Cool
john Skelton I expected more rain than I have had, it is the wet season. It has been arvos like I expected and lucky for me a lot at night so has been a bonus. It could have been a real disaster, with rain all day or more often.
Aprille Love this. It looks amazing
Ngaere Love the zip lining. Looks like you enjoyed another go at it. Keep having fun. Stay safe.
Kim Loving the new ORANGE John....suits you well :)
Ngaere Orange is your colour!!
