I came on the bus cos the bus station was 10min walk from my hotel. Meknes is the smallest of the imperial capitols and not much here to see. Moulay Ismail mausoleum is closed for renovations. The only other thing is the royal palace.
I got dumped off the bus at the bottom of the hill but luckily it was only about 1/2hr walk to my hotel. I had picked a place off Hostels that said it had a room but when I got there it was full. I had to look around so I tried a couple of places and they were not suitable or full. One place said try other side of the lane. I thought it looked way out of my price range but tried anyway. Well there was two women running the place and the fell to my charm and I got a great room for a great price. It is an old riad again and has been fully restored and is beautiful. In a quiet back lane what more could you want?
Tomorrow I am going to try to get to Moulay Idriss. I know you thought that was a person. As you know Moulay was the great-grandson of the prophet Mohammed, he fled Mecca in the 8th century and set up at Volubilis. He converted the locals to Islam and made himself the leader so now there is a town named after him, where his mausoleum is. If I go to the other side of town, to Ville Nouvelle, I should be able to get a grand taxi to Moulay Idriss. While there I will also go to the ruins at Volubilis.
