dzasta travels
I woke up at 2am this morning in a sweat. I thought I had stuffed up some flight bookings, so I got up and drew a calendar and filled out the days seems it is all ok. The Casa I am in change my room today. The new one is much bigger and I got my own bathroom but still lumpy bed.
There is not much to do today. I tried to get to Cayo Largo del Sur but they want 150euro to fly there for the day? I shoulda thought earlier and gone for a couple of days.
I walked to the biggest cigar shop here to do a tour. They don't do them any more I have to go to the factory. I will try again tomorrow. At the shop boxes of cigars were nothing under $100 ans up to $250 per box.
With nothing better to do I walked around the old town for a while then headed home via the beach. There is a really cheap bar down there so I had a couple on the way.
After a nanny nap, I walked into the city again to try to get some pics of the buildings lit up at night. It was a bit dissapointing, there were not many, just a few hotels. This is one of the few places I have been where it is safe to walk around at night. Well safe....ish.
I bought a cake off a lady in the street yesterday and gave her 1peso. She gave me change of 13peso? How? They use two different currencies here CUC Cuban convertibles known as peso and MN Moneda national known as peso. Very confusing.the MN is almost worthless to me co I pay gringo price for everything.
My last full day here I went to the cigar factory. It was a grey old day and looked like it was going to rain. I had to walk up to one of the flash hotels to get ticket and I asked the woman if I could walk back or walk into the city? She said no cos it was too far and I don't know the area. Well I went to the factory in one of those little goggo mobile tuk tuk's. That was a bit of fun. Now the tour was in English but with heavy Cuban accent. We are not allowed on 2nd floor where they finish off the cigars and boxes, so only the 4th floor. We are not allowed photos and just get to look in the windows to see the people making cigars. Now I know t.he process cos I've seen it in Burma so I could follow but I am not sure everyone would. It was kinda interesting, but could have been soo much better if they had someone make a cigar for us like they did in Burma. The whole tour took 15 minutes for the cost of 10 euro plus taxi.
After the tour I walked into the city. It was about 1/2 the distance as from my hotel. At one point I thought I had taken a wrong turn but I saw the gates to Bario Chino (China Town) and I knew where I was so it was pretty easy after all. It did rain a bit on the way home but as soon as I put my poncho on it stopped.
It was a great day to leave Havana. The day I left was wet and miserable.
