We are now two-thirds of the way through our two day trip across the United States. I am struck that it really is a big place. They're not kidding about that. The countryside has changed so dramatically. It is flat for miles around - big open planes and a huge, blue, empty sky. There is something meditative about train travel. I love the people watching as well as the changing view. Like long flights, it is suspended 'me time'. Time to listen to music, read boo...

Some things are the same the world over and it would appear that the propensity for university undergraduates to get naked is one of them. I spent a lovely afternoon exploring the trails around B's college. What a beautiful setting for a campus and what a lovely way to catch up with family. LZ

Beautiful sunshine as we wound up in the car, up to the summit of Rainbow Ridge. Awesome views in all directions. Unfortunately no walking as the paths were still snowy. Next time... LZ

Feeling super safe in the Olympic National Park! Apparently I'm over reacting as it's even rarer than encountering bears. Oh, ok then!!! LZ

Even man made objects are embraced by the continuous cycle of life in a temperate rainforest... The Hoh Rainforest was magical with its very tall, old trees, mosses, ferns and peaceful atmosphere. I was half expecting pixies and elves to appear as I kept half an eye out for elks, cougars and bears. They were apparently equally unlikely around the trails we were on. LZ
