We are now two-thirds of the way through our two day trip across the United States. I am struck that it really is a big place. They're not kidding about that. The countryside has changed so dramatically. It is flat for miles around - big open planes and a huge, blue, empty sky.

There is something meditative about train travel. I love the people watching as well as the changing view. Like long flights, it is suspended 'me time'. Time to listen to music, read books, catch-up on some correspondence and just be. It helps that the seats are relatively comfy, there's a lounge carriage with tables and big viewing windows and we brought a well stocked cooler bag.
