Jungle trekking....
A slight detour from our Malay Peninsular odyssey for the last few days. We hopped over the Straits of Malacca to visit Medan, Sumatra for some hiking in the jungle and some primate spotting.
The orangutans were described as semi-wild, and while I am not exactly sure what this means, I am pretty sure that we weren't that adventurous. But LZ got to use her walking boots for the first time in SE Asia, and we had amazing Indonesian food where they made the rice into little hearts. In true Facebook fashion. Leah liked this!
And now comes the slightly embarrassing bit. We signed up for a 2 day, one night trek, but when I saw the sleeping arrangements and the ants I decided that the rest house was more appealing. I might have told Leah that sleeping on the ground was not going to be good for my back, but the truth is that at 35 I have done sleeping in the open air and I has found it not to my liking.
The funny thing was that when we asked if we could join the jungle guide back to the guesthouse (it seems he didn't fancy it either) he automatically assumed it was at Leah's suggestion.
To my shame I didn't disabuse him of this notion.
